Orange Democratic Movement party chairperson Gladys Wanga has ruled out the possibility of the outfit abandoning the broad-based government.

Wanga noted that the party is there to stay despite pressure from certain quarters for it to leave.

Addressing hundreds of motorcycle riders from Kisumu County on Saturday, Wanga said those urging ODM and by extension the Luo community to abandon the broad-based arrangement are not sincere.

“They want ODM to quit the broad-based government so that they can replace us,” she said.

The Homa Bay governor said they are ready to walk along with President William Ruto. Wanga said ODM is in the government for the interest of the common man.

She also asserted that Siaya Senator Dr. Oburu Oginga remains the bona fide ODM leader. She said those opposed to the leadership of Oginga were present and fully participated in his installation as the party leader in Mombasa.

Singling out projects currently going on in various parts of Nyanza region, Wanga said the Standard Gauge Railway together with other ongoing projects are a pointer to the fact that President Ruto means well for the Luo community.

The chairperson revisited frustrations which the Luos have experienced with past regimes.

Wanga said the appointment of ODM luminaries are fruits of the broad-based government.

Earlier, Wanga cautioned the riders against being used to cause chaos. She thanked them for shunning the strike which gripped some parts of the country over the increase in fuel prices. Wanga noted that dialogue is the best approach to such issues.

Also present were Kisumu Central Member of Parliament Dr. Joshua Oron and his Kisumu West colleague Rosa Buyu.

The riders, through their chairman Jacob Ogambo, resolved not to engage in destructive politics. Ogambo said his members have instead been sensitized on the need to initiate income-generating projects.
