United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Homa Bay County Secretary Silas Jakakimba has called for political unity and inclusive leadership in the Nyanza region ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Jakakimba, a former aide to the late Prime Minister and ODM leader Raila Odinga, is advocating for a shift toward development-focused politics centered on economic empowerment, practical leadership, and regional cohesion.
Speaking during a series of grassroots engagements in Suba North Constituency on Wednesday, Jakakimba urged residents and political leaders to move beyond divisive politics and focus on initiatives that improve livelihoods through sustainable development.
He described the post-Odinga era as the end of one political chapter and the beginning of a new phase that requires visionary leadership capable of addressing the region’s economic and social challenges.
“We must now focus on empowering our people through development, unity, and opportunities that directly improve lives,” Jakakimba said during the meetings.
The UDA county official is widely seen as positioning himself for a possible bid for the Suba North parliamentary seat in the 2027 elections. His emerging political agenda emphasizes the revitalization of the fishing and agricultural sectors, improved education and infrastructure, and increased investment in the blue economy.
Jakakimba said Suba North possesses significant untapped economic potential that can be unlocked through stronger collaboration with investors, development partners, and government institutions.
He also urged Luo leaders to embrace political tolerance and cohesion ahead of the next election cycle, warning that internal divisions could weaken the region’s bargaining power and slow economic progress.
Political analysts view Jakakimba’s renewed public engagements as an indication of early political realignments taking shape across the wider Nyanza region ahead of the 2027 polls.
His growing prominence is expected to generate fresh political debate in Homa Bay County, particularly given his longstanding association with Odinga and his current leadership role within the ruling UDA party.
