A man and minor sustained serious burn injuries following a domestic dispute in Kakamega South Sub-county, after an alleged attack involving boiling water.

The incident occurred on Monday morning in Shivagala Village, near Malinya Patrol Base, and was reported to police on Tuesday afternoon by the injured man, Danston Isundwa Mmbehi.

According to a police report filed at Malinya Patrol Base, Mmbehi reported that he was at home with his wife, Mary Mmbone Khalechi, when a woman identified as Fransisca Makhokha arrived carrying a child aged 16 months old.

Mmbehi allegedly introduced Makhokha to his wife as his newly married second wife and informed her that the child belonged to them.

Police said the disclosure appeared to spark tension in the household.

The complainant reported that his wife welcomed the visitors before going to the kitchen, ostensibly to prepare tea.

However, she allegedly returned moments later carrying a sufuria of boiling water and poured it on Mmbehi while he was holding the child.

“Both the man and the minor suffered severe burns and were rushed to Kakamega County General Hospital for treatment,” police report reads.

While Mmbehi received medical attention and was discharged, the child remained admitted in serious condition at the time of going to press.

Police said the suspect fled the scene immediately after the incident and her whereabouts remain unknown.

Investigations are ongoing as police intensify efforts to trace and arrest the suspect.

The authorities have urged members of the public to resolve domestic and family disputes through peaceful means.
