Kisumu County has recruited 120 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers and 25 vocational training instructors as part of efforts to strengthen learning and skills development across the county.

The new recruits were officially inducted into public service during a ceremony in Kisumu attended by county officials and education stakeholders.

Kisumu Deputy Governor Dr Matthew Owili said the county government had prioritised investment in early childhood education and vocational training to improve learning outcomes and equip young people with practical skills.

“Our administration has made deliberate investments to strengthen and improve the quality of learning in our Vocational Training Centres and Early Childhood Development Education institutions across the county,” he said.

“This investment reflects our confidence in the skills, creativity and innovation of our youth as key drivers of the county’s socio-economic transformation,” he said.

Dr Owili also urged voters to elect leaders based on competence, integrity and performance rather than financial influence.

He warned against supporting candidates who use large cash handouts to win public office, arguing that such leaders often fail to deliver on their promises once elected.

Dr Owili, who has expressed interest in the Kisumu governorship, said leadership should be earned through experience and a proven track record rather than the ability to spend money during campaigns.
