The gvernment has reaffirmed committment to completing the Dhogoye Bridge in Usenge, Siaya County, describing the project as critical to improving transport links and access to services in the Lake Victoria region.
The bridge, being implemented by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), is expected to restore a critical transport link between Siaya and Busia counties after years of disruptions caused by rising waters of Lake Victoria that frequently submerged the existing crossing.
Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Dr. Raymond Omollo said the Government had intensified coordination among implementing agencies, local leaders, security teams, and communities to ensure the project progresses without further delays.
“The Government is committed to delivering infrastructure projects that directly improve the lives of our people. Dhogoye Bridge is one such investment that will permanently restore connectivity, stimulate economic activity, and provide residents with a reliable all-weather crossing,” Dr. Omollo said.

Construction of the bridge began in 2021 but experienced a prolonged slowdown before works resumed.
Over the past four months, construction has progressed steadily, with contractors registering significant milestones on site following renewed government support and improved coordination.
Dr. Omollo said the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration has played a central role in facilitating collaboration among all stakeholders, helping resolve operational challenges that had previously affected implementation.
“Our role has been to ensure that all government agencies work together seamlessly while maintaining a secure and conducive environment for contractors to execute the project efficiently. This coordinated approach has enabled construction to proceed uninterrupted,” he said.

For years, residents along the Bondo–Usenge–Osieko corridor have struggled with interrupted transport whenever lake waters rose, cutting off access to markets, schools, health facilities, and other social services.
The new bridge is expected to eliminate these disruptions while reducing travel time and transport costs.
Dr. Omollo said the project aligns with the Government’s broader agenda of expanding strategic infrastructure to unlock economic opportunities and promote inclusive development across the country.
“Reliable transport infrastructure is the backbone of economic growth. Once completed, this bridge will facilitate the movement of people and goods, strengthen trade between Siaya and Busia counties, and deepen social and economic integration across the region,” he said.

The Principal Secretary also commended local communities for supporting the project and urged residents to continue working closely with government agencies to safeguard public infrastructure.
“We appreciate the cooperation shown by community members and local leaders. Their support has been instrumental in sustaining progress, and we encourage everyone to continue protecting this important national investment for the benefit of present and future generations,” Dr. Omollo said.
Once completed, the Dhogoye Bridge is expected to enhance mobility across the Lake Victoria basin, improve access to public services, support business growth, and strengthen the region’s contribution to the national economy.
It will mark a significant milestone in the Government’s infrastructure development programme.
