Interior and National Administration Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo has warned criminals in Kisumu County that the government would intensify its crackdown on violent crime.
He said those involved in thuggery, gang violence and other criminal activities would face the full force of the law.
Dr. Omollo said the government had convened high-level security meetings with law enforcement agencies to address rising insecurity in the lakeside county.
He said the government would not tolerate killings, gang violence and other crimes that had recently threatened peace in the region.
Dr. Omollo urged parents to intervene if their children were involved in criminal activities, warning that failure to do so could result in arrests or loss of life.
“This is our home. We cannot continue fighting and killing our own people. I am asking parents to speak to their children. If you fail to do so, you may end up organising funerals or spending huge amounts of money trying to bail them out of prison,” he said.
He also called on residents to cooperate with security agencies by encouraging young people involved in crime to abandon criminal activities.
Dr Omollo also said the government had established new administrative units and was recruiting qualified candidates to serve as chiefs and assistant chiefs to strengthen service delivery at the grassroots.
Speaking during women economic empowerment fundraiser in Boya, Nyando, Kisumu County on Saturday, he urged communities to recommend people of integrity for the positions.
Dr. Omollo also appealed to residents to register for national identity cards, saying nearly one million people in the Nyanza region had yet to obtain the documents, limiting their access to government services and economic opportunities.
Defending the government’s economic empowerment initiatives, Dr. Omollo dismissed criticism of the programmes and said President William Ruto’s administration was distributing development resources equitably across the country regardless of political or ethnic affiliations.
The fundraiser was attended by senior Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders, including Deputy Party Leader Dr. Oburu Oginga and National Chairperson Gladys Wanga.
President Ruto contributed Sh 10 million while Dr. Oburu donated Sh 2 million.
Energy Cabinet Secretary James Opiyo Wandayi and Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi each donated Sh 1 million to support women owned small and medium-sized enterprises.
Several ODM lawmakers and local leaders at the event pledged to support Ruto’s re-election bid in the 2027 presidential election, saying his administration had delivered significant development projects in the Nyanza region.
