Nyanza Prophetic Clergy has called on political leaders to help ease rising political tensions in the country, saying hostility and unhealthy politics derails economic developments.
The group’s chairman Bishop Tom Obingo said politicians should exercise political tolerance and focus on promoting growth, well being of Kenyans and unity of the nation.
He at the same time said the group was committed to helping the president secure a decisive victory in the next general election.
Speaking during a church service at Onjiko-Tura AIC Church in Nyando on Sunday, Obingo said clergy from the Nyanza region has pledged to mobilise up to 300,000 votes in support of President William Ruto’s re-election,

The event was attended by President Ruto’s son, George Ruto, and Kisumu Central MP Dr Joshua Oron.
Bishop Obingo criticised what he described as “big churches”, accusing some religious leaders of hypocrisy and of fuelling political divisions.
He alleged that some churches had become platforms for inflammatory rhetoric, warning that such actions could undermine national unity.

The cleric also criticised sections of the media, accusing them of irresponsible reporting.
“All of us stand to lose if the country goes to the dogs,” Bishop Obingo said, urging Kenyans to safeguard peace and stability.
The cleric praised President Ruto’s leadership, saying his record in office spoke for itself, and appealed to Kenyans not to be swayed by politicians promoting what he described as divisive politics.

Accompanied by the caucus’ programme director, Dr Evance Ongati, Bishop Obingo said leaders had a responsibility to build a strong foundation for future generations.
George urged residents of the Nyanza region to support the government’s development agenda, particularly programmes aimed at creating opportunities for young people.
Dr Oron said Kisumu Central Constituency had one of the highest concentrations of housing developments in the country, which he said had created employment opportunities for many residents.
He also credited the broad-based government arrangement with helping to maintain peace and political stability in the country.
