Embakasi East MP Babu Owino says a new political party will be launched to challenge MPs who fail to deliver on their promises to voters.
Owino said the party would conduct its nominations in an open and transparent manner, with members of the public given a greater say in choosing candidates.
“There will be no direct tickets or sacred cows in the new party,” he said.
Speaking at a funeral in Kisumu County, Owino predicted that the party would cause political casualties, particularly in the Nyanza region, where he said some leaders had previously benefited from endorsements by ODM leader Raila Odinga.
He named Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma as one of those who could face a challenge.
Owino also condemned recent violence against opposition figures, saying such acts undermined the freedoms for which Kenyans had fought.
He referred to incidents of violence involving political leaders in Homa Bay and Kisumu, saying it was wrong for young people to be used to carry out attacks.
The MP questioned why young people were being mobilised to confront those who criticised the government over unfulfilled campaign promises by President William Ruto.
He urged young people not to allow themselves to be hired as political goons.
Owino also challenged youths chanting slogans calling for President Ruto to serve a second term to assess what they had gained from his administration.
e criticised government initiatives that he said provided inadequate support for young people, arguing that providing one motorbike for a group of 20 youths was not enough.
Owino said he was confident of winning the Nairobi governorship in 2027 before seeking the presidency in 2032.
He later addressed supporters at several stops in Kisumu town.
