Hafidh Ameir Hassan, the husband of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, has died.
The death was announced on Monday by Vice-President Deogratius Ndjembi.
President William Ruto has sent his condolences to President Samia, her family and the people of Tanzania.
Ruto, in a statement on Monday, described Hafidh as President Samia’s lifelong companion, a beloved father to their children and a distinguished Tanzanian.
“President Samia has lost a lifelong companion, her children a beloved father, and Tanzania a distinguished son,” he said.
Ruto said Kenya stood with Tanzania during the period of mourning.
“Kenya stands with our Tanzanian brothers and sisters in this moment of grief,” he said.
He also offered prayers for comfort and strength for President Samia and her family, and for the deceased to be granted eternal rest.
“May Almighty God comfort President Samia and her family, give them strength through this difficult time, and grant Hafidh Ameir Hassan eternal rest,”Ruto said.
