Two men have been arrested after a lorry carrying 250 sacks of suspected uncustomed sugar was intercepted along the Kisumu–Busia road.
The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Customs Enforcement team and officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kondele intercepted the white Isuzu lorry, registration number KDR 898A, following intelligence-led operations on Monday.
Police said the lorry was taken to Kondele Police Station, where officers inspected the consignment and established that it contained 250 sacks of sugar weighing 50kg each, with an estimated customs value of Sh1.24 million.

The sacks, bearing the Olepito Sugar logo, reportedly lacked dates of manufacture and batch numbers.
The two men were also unable to produce documents showing that the sugar had been legally imported or that the required customs duties had been paid, according to the police report.
The suspects were identified as driver Samuel Otieno Obudo, 43, and conductor Erick Ochieng, 31. They were arrested and detained at Kondele Police Station.

They are facing preliminary allegations of possessing uncustomed goods, conveying uncustomed goods and importing restricted goods without a permit.
The seized consignment was processed and documented by crime scene investigators, while an inventory was prepared and signed.
The impounded lorry was later escorted to the Customs Warehouse in Kisumu. The DCI office in Kondele is handling the case.
