The Government has issued a strong warning against the misuse of youth for political gain, following a high-level engagement with boda boda leaders in Kisumu County.

Speaking during the forum, Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, Raymond Omollo, met representatives from all seven constituencies in Kisumu to discuss challenges and opportunities within the sector.

The meeting brought together operators from Kisumu East, Kisumu West, Kisumu Central, Seme, Nyando, Nyakach, and Muhoroni.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It focused on improving organization, boosting livelihoods, and strengthening cooperation with security agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Omollo recognized the boda boda sector as a key driver of Kenya\u2019s economy, supporting over two million livelihoods and providing vital transport services across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He emphasized the need for closer collaboration between riders and security agencies, urging operators to support community safety through information sharing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a major relief to riders, the PS confirmed that the Government, under the leadership of President William Ruto, has ordered the release of all motorbikes impounded over minor offences. The directive is already being implemented across the Nyanza region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, he maintained that serious offences will still be handled according to the law and called for discipline and compliance within the sector. Riders were urged to ensure proper registration, licensing, and insurance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Omollo also warned boda boda operators against being used to incite violence or disrupt public order, calling on youth to reject political manipulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He highlighted ongoing government initiatives aimed at empowering young people, including job creation programs, affordable housing, and digital opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, citizens were encouraged to register for national IDs, enroll in the Social Health Authority, and participate in voter registration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The PS reaffirmed that while Kenyans have the right to assemble and express themselves, all public gatherings must follow the law, including notifying the police in advance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He concluded by assuring continued government engagement with the boda boda sector, noting that strong partnerships are key to improving livelihoods and maintaining stability in Kisumu and beyond.
