{"id":25727,"date":"2026-07-30T08:02:59","date_gmt":"2026-07-30T08:02:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/?p=25727"},"modified":"2026-07-30T08:02:59","modified_gmt":"2026-07-30T08:02:59","slug":"two-killed-and-26-injured-as-hearse-carrying-mourners-overturns-in-kericho-county","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/index.php\/2026\/07\/30\/two-killed-and-26-injured-as-hearse-carrying-mourners-overturns-in-kericho-county\/","title":{"rendered":"Two killed and 26 injured as hearse carrying mourners overturns in Kericho County"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two people have died and 26 others have been injured after a hearse carrying mourners overturned along the Muhoroni-Londiani road in Kericho County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Police said the crash happened at about 4:50am on Thursday in the Tunnel area, around seven kilometres east of Fort Ternan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The vehicle, a Mercedes-Benz bus belonging to Kupa Kenya Hearse Services, was travelling towards Muhoroni while transporting mourners escorting the body of the late Jayden Kamau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to police, the driver, 33-year-old Emmanuel Osembo, lost control of the vehicle before it veered off the road to the left and rolled over once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene. They were identified as 36-year-old Mathew Obiero and 21-year-old Margaret Areyo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Twenty-six other passengers sustained injuries ranging from cuts and bruises to chest, spinal and head injuries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two of the injured were reported to be unconscious and were among those taken to hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bodies of the two victims were moved to St Vincent Mortuary for identification and post-mortem examinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Police visited the scene and recovered the vehicle, which was towed to Fort Ternan Police Station pending inspection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The cause of the crash has not been established and investigations are continuing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two people have died and 26 others have been injured after a hearse carrying mourners overturned along the Muhoroni-Londiani road in Kericho County.
