{"id":26432,"date":"2026-09-09T09:45:46","date_gmt":"2026-09-09T09:45:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/?p=26432"},"modified":"2026-09-09T09:45:47","modified_gmt":"2026-09-09T09:45:47","slug":"kisumu-road-projects-at-different-stages-as-government-steps-up-works","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/index.php\/2026\/09\/09\/kisumu-road-projects-at-different-stages-as-government-steps-up-works\/","title":{"rendered":"Kisumu road projects at different stages as government steps up works"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Major road projects are at various stages of construction across Kenya&#8217;s Kisumu County, with some nearing completion while others are awaiting the start of works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The projects include key routes linking Kisumu to neighbouring counties, as well as roads intended to improve movement within the county.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, the 30.5km Maseno-Kombewa-Kalandini road and roads in Maseno town are 67.7% complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project has an estimated cost of Sh1.73 billion. The 4.7km Kisumu Boys Roundabout-Mamboleo Junction dual carriageway is further ahead, with construction 98% complete. It has cost Sh1.31illion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Principal Secretary for Interior and National Administration Raymond Omollo said the projects were progressing at different rates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;These projects are at different stages of implementation, but the progress shows that significant work is taking place across the county,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-src=\"https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/IMG-20260909-WA0002-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26434 lazyload\" data-sizes=\"auto\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/IMG-20260909-WA0002-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/IMG-20260909-WA0002-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/IMG-20260909-WA0002-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/IMG-20260909-WA0002-1536x1023.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/IMG-20260909-WA0002-1100x733.jpg 1100w, https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/IMG-20260909-WA0002-680x453.jpg 680w, https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/IMG-20260909-WA0002-200x133.jpg 200w, https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/IMG-20260909-WA0002-20x13.jpg 20w, https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/IMG-20260909-WA0002.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong><em>Roads in Kisumu are under construction to bitumen standards\/Photo:Handout<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The largest concentration of ongoing works is along the Mamboleo-Miwani-Chemelil-Muhoroni-Kipsitet corridor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 12.9km Mamboleo Junction-Miwani section, known as Lot One, is 20.2% complete and has an allocated cost of Sh5.19bn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lot Two, covering 43.4km between Miwani and Chemelil, is 34% complete at a cost of Sh4.96 bilion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 44.5km Chemelil-Muhoroni-Kipsitet section, Lot Three, is 28% complete and has an estimated cost of Sh5.72bn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The three sections have a combined value of more than Sh15.8bn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The corridor is expected to improve transport links between Kisumu and areas towards Kericho.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The Mamboleo-Miwani-Chemelil-Muhoroni-Kipsitet corridor is particularly significant because of its length and the level of investment involved,&#8221; Omollo said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Work on the Ahero and Kericho interchanges is also close to completion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Ahero Interchange, located at the A1\/B1 junction, is 95.3% complete, while the Kericho Interchange at the B1\/C23 junction is 95.2% complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The two projects have a combined cost of about Sh1.39 billion.<br>Other projects, however, remain at an earlier stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 11km Koru Town-Junction C35 road and access road to Koru Bible College, valued at Sh892.6m, is listed as 11.47% complete and is currently pending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-src=\"https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/IMG-20260909-WA0001-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26435 lazyload\" data-sizes=\"auto\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/IMG-20260909-WA0001-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/IMG-20260909-WA0001-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/IMG-20260909-WA0001-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/IMG-20260909-WA0001-680x453.jpg 680w, https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/IMG-20260909-WA0001-200x133.jpg 200w, https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/IMG-20260909-WA0001-20x13.jpg 20w, https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/IMG-20260909-WA0001.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong><em>Roads in Kisumu are under construction to bitumen standards\/Photo: Handout.<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two other projects have reached the contract award stage. They are the 12km Holo-Lela Road, estimated at Sh920m, and the Chiga-Rabuor Road, with a contract value of Sh1.10 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The focus now is to ensure that projects already underway maintain momentum and that those at the contracting stage move into implementation,&#8221; Omollo said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The government expects the road programme to improve access to markets, reduce travel times and strengthen transport links between Kisumu and neighbouring counties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The projects could also support trade and economic activity in communities along the affected routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Better roads mean better connectivity, easier movement of goods and people, and greater opportunities for communities along these routes,&#8221; Omollo said.<br><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Major road projects are at various stages of construction across Kenya&#8217;s Kisumu County, with some nearing completion while others are awaiting the start of works.
