Security has been tightened ahead of President William Ruto\u2019s four-day working tour of the Nyanza region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nyanza Regional Commissioner Onesmus Kyatha said President Ruto would visit all four counties in the region to assess the progress of government development projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is also expected to attend a church service at the Voice of Salvation and Healing in Kisumu on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is a working tour for the President. He will assess the progress of development projects across the region,\u201d Mr Kyatha said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The projects include affordable housing, markets and roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Kisumu, the president is expected to launch the Katito-Awasi road, among other projects, according to the preliminary itinerary.

The commissioner also addressed an incident in Siaya on 8 September, when police arrested 12 people after youths allegedly attempted to obstruct a convoy of dignitaries attending a women\u2019s economic empowerment event at the Kenya Medical Training College grounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was hosted by First Lady Rachel Ruto, who was accompanied by Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi and other government officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kyatha said the incident was not directed at the First Lady, but involved youths cheering their leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Whatever happened in Siaya was not about the First Lady. The youth were cheering their leaders,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He urged leaders working with young people to encourage them to welcome the president peacefully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“To the leaders engaging the youths, this is a visit by the President. To the youths, let us welcome the President well.,” Kyatha said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He warned that those youths who will engage in any criminal activities will be dealt with firmly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Let them try and they will face the full force of the law. Those who misbehave will be dealt with accordingly,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kyatha said security agencies had increased preparations ahead of the president\u2019s visit. “We have beefed up security in the region,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
