Kenya Revenue Authority\u2019s (KRA) Customs and Border Control Department collected Sh 90.053 billion in September, exceeding its target by Sh965 million, the authority said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The collection was 1.1% above the target of Sh 89.088 billion and represented a 5.8% increase from the Sh 85.146 billion collected in September 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Non-oil revenue collections rose to Sh 57.199 billion, surpassing the target of Sh 55.422 billion by Sh 1.778 billion, KRA said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The growth was supported by a 25.6% increase in the overall value of imports, while bulk cargo volumes rose 49.2%. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The increase in bulk cargo was driven mainly by imports of fertilisers, iron and steel, palm oil and its fractions, and rice, among other commodities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imports of motor vehicles increased by 8.1%, while containerised cargo handled by the authority, measured in twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), rose by 8.2%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
KRA attributed the performance to stronger customs administration and measures aimed at facilitating legitimate trade while protecting government revenue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The authority said it was strengthening compliance through technology-driven customs processes and increased enforcement against illicit trade and revenue leakages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reforms include the introduction of Advance Cargo Declaration (ACD) and greater use of data to improve cargo risk management, speed up the processing of customs declarations and identify high-risk consignments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The authority said the measures were intended to improve operational efficiency, transparency and predictability for traders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The September results support the government’s efforts to mobilise revenue to fund development priorities, sustain economic growth and strengthen public finances.
