{"id":27648,"date":"2026-10-21T15:41:23","date_gmt":"2026-10-21T15:41:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/?p=27648"},"modified":"2026-10-21T15:41:25","modified_gmt":"2026-10-21T15:41:25","slug":"eacc-recovers-sh207-7m-in-unexplained-assets-from-former-trans-nzoia-accountant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/index.php\/2026\/10\/21\/eacc-recovers-sh207-7m-in-unexplained-assets-from-former-trans-nzoia-accountant\/","title":{"rendered":"EACC recovers Sh207.7m in unexplained assets from former Trans Nzoia accountant"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has secured a court order for the forfeiture of assets worth Sh207.7million linked to a former government accountant who failed to explain how he acquired the wealth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a judgment delivered on October 8, 2026, Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Court judge Rose Ougo ruled that Andrew Biketi Musuya had failed to satisfactorily explain the difference between his assets and his known legitimate sources of income.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Musuya previously worked as an accountant at the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation and the Trans Nzoia County Government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The forfeited assets include properties in Mombasa and Bungoma valued at Sh150.2m, bank and mobile money deposits totalling Sh53.5m, and two motor vehicles worth Sh4m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The properties comprise two five-storey apartment blocks and a five-bedroom townhouse in Mtwapa, Mombasa County, as well as seven undeveloped plots of land in Mombasa and Bungoma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The EACC said its investigations established that Musuya accumulated assets worth Sh289.9m between 1 January 2013 and October 31, 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"846\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-src=\"https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/FB_IMG_1792597061288-1024x846.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27650 lazyload\" data-sizes=\"auto\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/FB_IMG_1792597061288-1024x846.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/FB_IMG_1792597061288-300x248.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/FB_IMG_1792597061288-768x634.jpg 768w, https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/FB_IMG_1792597061288-680x562.jpg 680w, https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/FB_IMG_1792597061288-200x165.jpg 200w, https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/FB_IMG_1792597061288-20x17.jpg 20w, https:\/\/thefocuspaper.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/FB_IMG_1792597061288.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong><em>One of the houses recovered by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission from former accountant at the County Government of Trans Nzoia\/Photo: Handout.<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The assets included bank and M-Pesa deposits of Sh53.5million, land valued at Sh226.8million and motor vehicles worth Sh9.6million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The commission subsequently filed proceedings under Section 55 of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act, seeking to recover Sh284.1m in assets it considered disproportionate to Musuya&#8217;s known legitimate income.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The court found that he had failed to account for Sh207.7m and ordered the amount to be forfeited to the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The EACC said it remained committed to protecting public property and ensuring public resources were preserved for the benefit of Kenyans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The forfeiture forms part of the commission&#8217;s efforts to recover assets suspected to have been acquired through unexplained wealth.<br><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has secured a court order for the forfeiture of assets worth Sh207.7million linked to a former government accountant who failed to explain how he acquired the wealth.
