Freedom and Opportunity Party (FOP) leader Onyango Oloo has confirmed that he will contest Kenya’s 2027 presidential election, saying his party is expanding its structures across the country ahead of the vote.
Oloo, who spoke to journalists in Kisumu on Monday, said the party had established offices in 27 counties and was opening regional offices to bring its services closer to members.
He said the regional offices would carry out many of the functions currently handled at the party’s headquarters in Nairobi.
Oloo said the party had recently opened a regional office in Kirinyaga County and planned to establish another in Kisumu to serve Nyanza, western Kenya and parts of the Rift Valley.
e said the expansion was intended to strengthen the party’s presence nationwide ahead of the next general election.
“I have on numerous occasions expressed my desire and actually come out to tell Kenyans that I’m going to run for the office of the President come the year 2027,” he said.
Oloo said the Freedom and Opportunity Party was founded to focus on improving the lives of Kenyans, adding that it sought to distinguish itself from what he described as traditional political parties.
During his visit to Kirinyaga, Oloo said he had been installed as a Kikuyu elder, describing the recognition as a symbol of improved relations between communities.
He said the honour recognised his contribution while serving as Secretary General of The National Alliance and argued that it showed ethnic divisions could be overcome through dialogue and mutual respect.
Oloo also criticised what he described as growing political violence in parts of the country, particularly in the Luo Nyanza region.
He alleged that political intolerance had contributed to the emergence of organised groups involved in violence and called on the authorities to take action.
“ODM must be brave and bold enough to carry its baby. Goonism is a product of several years of political thuggery,” he said.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has not responded to the allegations.
Oloo also accused the government of failing to deal adequately with political violence, saying all political parties should be able to campaign freely ahead of the 2027 elections.
He said FOP was committed to peaceful political competition and called for an election environment free from intimidation.
“We want peaceful elections in the forthcoming general elections. We want to coexist politically with our rivals in the political space,” he said.
Political parties have stepped up grassroots mobilisation and organisational expansion as they prepare for Kenya’s 2027 general election.
