The Linda Mwananchi movement says its Paybill donation platform is back online after a temporary technical problem disrupted contributions from supporters.
In a brief update posted on Thursday, the movement said: “We are so back!!”, indicating that the service had been restored.
Earlier in the day, the movement told supporters that it was experiencing technical issues affecting donations made through its Paybill platform.In a statement, it said it had contacted the service provider after identifying the problem and was working to restore normal service.
“We are currently experiencing technical issues with the Paybill mode of payment. We have reached out to the provider to resolve the issue as quickly as possible,” the statement said.
The movement also appealed for patience while the issue was being resolved.The Paybill, number 3033049, remains the movement’s official fundraising platform.
Supporters are required to use their phone numbers as the account number when making donations.
The fundraising drive was launched earlier this week to support the movement’s activities and logistics.
Speaking on Mulembe FM after the launch, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna encouraged supporters to contribute Sh10 each, saying the movement intended to rely on small public donations rather than wealthy backers.
He also dismissed claims that the movement was receiving funding from undisclosed sponsors.
“The critics should choose one battle. If I’m someone’s project, then I have money; why do they then say that I do not have money? They should choose one: either I have or I do not have money. Either I have a sponsor or I do not have one,” he said.
Sifuna said the Paybill account had been registered in his name because Linda Mwananchi has not yet been registered as a political party.
“We have not registered Linda Mwananchi as a party, so when we are looking for a Paybill account, we use our official names. You will see my name on the Paybill.
The Paybill number is 3033049. You will see the name E Sifuna,” he said.He added that the movement would publicly account for all money raised and explain how the funds were spent.
Before the temporary disruption, the movement said it had raised Sh2,2 million through the Paybill within 36 hours of its launch.
With the service restored, the movement is expected to continue its fundraising campaign, which encourages supporters to make contributions of Sh10.
