More than 800 people in Kondele Ward, Kisumu Central, have received free medical treatment and medicines during a community health camp.
The outreach organised Kisumu Central parliamentary hopeful Edward Onyango, widely known as Bob CEO, offered consultations, health screenings and medication, with residents seeking treatment for common illnesses amid rising healthcare costs.
Onyango said he would also sponsor the registration and Social Health Authority (SHA) contributions for 200 vulnerable residents to help them continue accessing healthcare after the one-day camp.
“This is not just about treating illnesses today. It is about ensuring vulnerable families can continue accessing healthcare through SHA support,” he said during the event on Thursday.
The Kondele exercise follows similar medical camps held in Manyatta, Obunga and Jua Kali, where hundreds of residents also received free treatment.
Onyango said the initiative would continue across Kisumu Central, arguing that many families still struggle to afford medical care despite efforts to expand health coverage.
“Healthcare is a right, not a privilege. No family should have to choose between buying food and seeking treatment,” he said.
He said supporting vulnerable residents to enrol in SHA would help reduce the financial barriers that prevent many people from seeking medical attention..
Residents who attended the camp described the programme as timely, saying it enabled them to receive treatment they had delayed because they could not afford hospital bills.
Some also welcomed the provision of free medicines and health education.
Onyango thanked Kondele residents for attending the event and said he would continue the programme in partnership with healthcare workers and volunteers.
The medical outreach has become one of Onyango’s key community initiatives as he prepares to contest the Kisumu Central parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.
