Interior and National Administration Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has challenged leaders seeking to unseat President William Ruto in the 2027 elections to explain what they have achieved during their years in public service.
Omollo said Mr Ruto had raised the standard of political leadership and urged voters to scrutinise the records, plans and achievements of candidates seeking elective office, from ward representatives to the presidency.
“Even if you want to be an MCA, MP, woman representative, senator, governor or even president of this country, you must tell Kenyans what you have done before and what you intend to do,” he said.
Speaking in Homa Bay during a consultative meeting with grassroots mobilisers involved in civic education, Omollo singled out opposition figures Kalonzo Musyoka and Siaya Governor James Orengo, questioning their records in public service.
He challenged Mr Musyoka to account for his contribution to the country after serving in senior political positions over the years.
“Take the case of Kalonzo Musyoka, what has he done for Kenyans all this time he has led this country in different categories?” Omollo asked.
He also criticised Orengo, who has been involved in elective politics for decades, questioning his development record in Siaya County.
Omollo accused opposition leaders of seeking to create political divisions without allowing their own records to come under scrutiny.
“I saw him coming to Homa Bay to stoke animosity. I even see some Homa Bay residents lining up to clap for him. Can he first tell us what he has done in Siaya?” he said.
The PS defended the government’s development record in Homa Bay, saying residents had benefited from roads and other projects despite the county largely voting against President Ruto in the 2022 election.
He cited road construction and other infrastructure projects as evidence that the government was delivering services to the region.
“Since independence, we see a lot that this government that our people didn’t vote into office is doing for us,” Omollo said.
He said most elected leaders in Homa Bay were supporting Ruto’s bid for a second term, with Suba South MP Caroli Omondi among those who have openly opposed the president’s re-election.
Omollo dismissed Omondi’s criticism of the government’s development record in Suba South, saying residents should judge such claims against verifiable evidence.
“That’s a lie that must be confronted by facts, because we know the kilometres of roads tarmacked in his constituency by this regime; it’s not mundane, it’s a huge progress,” he said.
The PS urged grassroots mobilisers to provide accurate information and help residents understand government programmes and services.
He said civic education should enable citizens to make informed choices while encouraging communities to take advantage of government initiatives.
Omollo also urged Homa Bay residents to register as voters and ensure they had the necessary identification documents ahead of the 2027 elections.
He said the ballot would give voters an opportunity to reward leaders whose performance met their expectations and reject those who failed to deliver.
“Do not listen to critics of President Ruto; arm yourselves with your identity cards and voters’ cards and make your voices known in the ballot in 2027,” Omollo said.
