Kisumu West MP Rosa Buyu joined teachers in Seme Sub-County on Monday to mark World Teachers’ Day, praising educators for their role in shaping young people and supporting communities.
Buyu, a former teacher, attended celebrations at Manywanda Comprehensive School, where she reflected on her experience in the classroom and paid tribute to teachers for their commitment to learners.
“There is something special about being among teachers. It takes you back to the classroom, to the shared purpose of nurturing young minds and shaping the future of our communities,” Buyu said.
She said her experience as a teacher had given her an understanding of the demands of the profession, including the patience, commitment and sacrifice required to guide learners.

“Teachers do much more than impart knowledge; they inspire confidence, shape character, identify potential and give young people the tools to dream and pursue a better future,” she said.
Buyu said her continued interaction with educators had reinforced her connection to the profession. “Once a teacher, always a teacher,” she said.
She thanked teachers in Seme and across Kisumu County for their contribution to learners, families and communities.
“Your contribution to our children, our communities and our country is immeasurable,” Buyu said.

The event came as Buyu remains active in Kisumu politics ahead of the 2027 general election.
She declared her interest in the Kisumu governor’s race in July, joining several politicians seeking to succeed Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o.
Other politicians linked to the race include Deputy Governor Mathews Owili, Kisumu Central MP Joshua Oron, Senator Tom Ojienda, Nyakach MP Aduma Owuor and Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga.
At Manywanda, however, the focus remained on teachers and their role in preparing learners for life beyond school.
Buyu urged educators to remain committed to mentorship, service and developing future generations. “Happy World Teachers’ Day,” she said.
