Former cabinet minister Wilson Ndolo Ayah’s son Dr Richard Ayah has declared interest for the Kisumu Senate seat ahead of the 2027 general election.
Dr. Ayah, a public health specialist with more than 30 years of experience in health systems management, eyes to replace senator Prof. Tom Ojienda.
Prof. Ojienda wants to take over from governor Anyang Nyong’o who is serving his second term in the next year’s general elections.
Dr. Ayah made the declaration in Seme Constituency on Saturday during the burial of Eliud Nyikal Okaka, father to the area MP Dr. James Nyikal.
His entry pits them in a fierce contest for the senate seat against high profile seats that include former Citizen TV journalist Willis Raburu and lawyers Fred Odumo and Stephen Nyandiare.

Dr. Ayah said that his decision is driven by the need to restore accountability in Kisumu County, accusing the current administration of working in secrecy.
He has promised to use the oversight mandate of the Senate to demand transparency and ensure that public resources benefit ordinary residents.
The county government ought to be accountable for proper service delivery to residents.
The aspirant is no stranger to political aspirations having been brought up by a former minister. He lost the Seme parliamentary seat but remained active on the ground, including being involved in youth and women empowerment.
Over the years, Dr. Ayah has sponsored education to needy students and helped promote small scale businesses for women work that he now hopes to convert to political support.
Besides politics, Dr.Ayah has a massive professional profile to offer. He positioning himself as the candidate for reform.
He has a rich professional background, being a known medical scholar, policy researcher, and author, with leadership in local and international institutions, such as the University of California, San Francisco and the Centre for Health Solutions.
