Safaricom Profit Hits Sh100bn Safaricom

Shareholders are in line for a dividend payout of Sh 80.1 billion after the company reported a rise in annual profits.

The payout, equivalent to Sh 2.00 per share, marks a 66.7% increase on the previous year and comes in the first 12 months of the telecoms firm’s five-year plan.

Group net income rose to Sh100 billion for the year to 31 March 2026, driven by customer growth and increased use of digital services.

“I think we have shown strong execution. Our performance accelerated in the second half, surpassing guidance,” Group CEO Peter Ndegwa told investors.

Safaricom Kenya saw service revenue rise 10% to Sh400.8 billion, while earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) grew 15.3% to Sh182.3 billion.

The company now has 71.6 million customers.M-PESA, its mobile money platform, generated Sh182.7 billion in revenue from 41 million active users in Kenya.

The Ethiopia operation contributed 12.5% of Group service revenue growth, with subscriber numbers reaching 13.6 million.

The network now covers 60% of the population.Chairman Adil Khawaja said the business was showing momentum.

“We are beginning to see the benefits of scale in Ethiopia,” Khawaja said.

Through the Safaricom and M-PESA Foundations, the company said it had helped transform the lives of more than 4.4 million people through education, health and economic empowerment programmes.
