Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo has denied allegations linking him to the violent attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, dismissing the claims as baseless and politically charged.
He dismissed allegations that he had sponsored individuals involved in the assault, maintaining that any criminal allegations should be handled through established legal channels.
“I don’t think I would want to respond to Osotsi. He is a leader, a senator, a legislator. We are a constitutional country with processes, and if anyone, not just in the name of the PS, is involved in any criminal activity, there is a process that needs to be undertaken,” Dr. Omollo said.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday, he emphasized that investigations should be left to law enforcement agencies and urged leaders to avoid politicising the matter.
“If there is any evidence, then you need to involve the police. I would go to a police station, report, and follow the matter. Up to this point in time, I am not sure if anything like that has happened,” Dr. Omollo said.
He added that the police and the law should be allowed to deal with criminality of that nature.
The PS further denied that he had any political interest in organizing violence against the senator, terming the allegations speculative and unfounded.
“As it is, I would consider it street talk. The question is, what would be the interest of PS Omollo in attacking Senator Osotsi? What is it that Osotsi is doing that affects my work?” he posed.
His sentiments come following high political tensions after the attack on Senator Osotsi in Kisumu, an incident that left him with serious injuries and sparked widespread condemnation.
According to reports, the senator was assaulted by a group of armed youths shortly after leaving a barbershop and making a stop at a Java restaurant in April 2026.
Witnesses claimed the attackers appeared organised and specifically targeted the legislator in what has been described as a politically motivated assault.
Osotsi was initially treated at Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu before being airlifted to Nairobi for specialised medical care. Siaya Governor James Orengo visited him at the hospital.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) later launched investigations into the incident, leading to the arrest and arraignment of three suspects before a Kisumu court.
The attack generated political debate, with leaders across the region calling for peace and urging security agencies to expedite investigations and ensure the culprits are arrested and charged.
Senator Osotsi had linked the assault to political intimidation.
