The principal of St Mary’s School Yala, Victor Makanda, has been appointed the new chairman of the Nyanza Region chapter of the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KSSHA).
Mr Makanda, who also serves as the KSSHA chairman for Siaya County, succeeds Dr George Opiyo Nyangwe, who stepped down after retiring as senior principal of Dr Aloo Gumbi Secondary School in Kisumu County earlier this month.
Dr Nyangwe, who also served as the KSSHA chairman for Kisumu County, officially handed over the leadership during a ceremony witnessed by the Nyanza Regional Director of Education, Lawrence Karuntimi.
Speaking during the handover, Dr Nyangwe thanked school heads across the region for the support they gave him during his tenure.
He wished Mr Makanda success as he assumes the regional leadership role.
Mr Makanda, who previously served as the association’s regional vice-chairman, described Dr Nyangwe as a dedicated leader and mentor who helped shape the careers of many school principals.
He pledged to build on the foundation laid by his predecessor and work with school heads to strengthen education leadership across the region.
Mr Karuntimi commended Dr Nyangwe for his contribution to education leadership at both county and regional levels, describing him as a unifying figure during his years in office.
He urged school heads to emulate Dr Nyangwe’s leadership and commitment, saying principals play a critical role in the management and delivery of quality education.
