The government has allocated Sh605 million to expand access to clean and safe water in Karachuonyo West Sub-county, Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo has said.
Speaking during a tour of development projects before addressing a public meeting in the area, Dr. Omollo said the investment would benefit residents across the sub-county’s three wards.
“The government has invested Sh605 million in water supply for the entire sub-county covering the three wards, and this will improve access to clean and safe water for our people,” he said.
The project forms part of the government’s wider efforts to improve living standards by tackling long-standing water shortages, he added.
Dr Omollo urged residents to safeguard public infrastructure and support government projects, saying community involvement was essential to ensuring development.
He said improved access to reliable water would boost public health, improve sanitation and support economic activity across the area.
The PS also expressed concern over rising cases of transformer vandalism, warning that the crime was slowing electricity connections under the government’s Last Mile Connectivity Programme.
He called on residents to report those responsible to security agencies.
“We must protect the infrastructure that has already been put in place, and those who engage in vandalism must face the law,” he said.
On transport infrastructure, Dr. Omollo said work had resumed on road projects that had stalled for several years.
He said construction of a 67km road launched in 2018 was now progressing, with a total of 88km of roads in Karachuonyo West set to be upgraded to bitumen standard at a cost of Sh5.2 billion.
“For many years people waited for these roads, but today work is progressing and we expect the entire 67 kilometre stretch to be completed,” he said.
Dr. Omollo also urged parents to keep children in school, saying the government continued to invest in education through teacher recruitment, school infrastructure and student financial support.
He appealed to political leaders and residents to maintain peace and tolerance, and to allow all candidates to campaign freely ahead of Kenya’s next general election.
