The officer, attached to Muhoroni Police Division, was hit on the head by a stone while driving his colleagues back to their station along the Homa Bay-Kendu Bay road.
Police said the incident happened between Olare and Nyangweso trading centres in Rangwe Sub-county.

The officer was taken to a hospital in Kisumu County but died while receiving treatment.
Homa Bay County Police Commander Lawrence Koilem said the officer was among those deployed to Homa Bay to reinforce security during the rally.
