Kusa Comprehensive School in Nyakach has received a major boost after Kisumu County ODM chairman Okoth Opande contributed Sh230,000 towards improving the institution’s infrastructure.
Opande, who is seeking the Nyakach parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election, joined the school fraternity during a fundraiser aimed at raising resources to improve the learning environment for pupils.
The contribution is part of efforts by the school and members of the community to address infrastructure needs and provide learners with a better environment for their education.
Speaking during the fundraiser, Opande said investing in schools was an investment in the future of the Nyakach community, noting that learners need conducive facilities to perform well academically.
“The future of Nyakach begins in our classrooms. When we improve our schools, we are not only improving buildings; we are investing in the future of our children and our community,” Opande said.
The ODM official said he was encouraged by the commitment shown by the school administration, parents and other stakeholders in mobilising resources for the institution.
He said community development required people to identify pressing needs and work together to address them.
“Where there is a need, Mullah shows up. I believe leadership is about being present, listening to the people and supporting initiatives that directly improve their lives,” he said.
The Sh230,000 donation is expected to support the school’s infrastructure improvement programme as the institution works towards creating better facilities for its learners.
Opande said education would remain a key priority in his development agenda as he seeks to represent Nyakach in Parliament in 2027.
He said better schools would give children from the area a stronger foundation and increase their chances of pursuing further education and securing opportunities in the future.
“Every school improved, every learner supported and every opportunity created is another step towards a stronger and more prosperous Nyakach,” Opande said.
The fundraiser brought together members of the school community and other well-wishers who contributed towards the institution’s development programme.
Opande urged residents and leaders to continue supporting schools and other community projects, saying development could not be achieved through government efforts alone.
“We must all play our part. Government has its responsibility, but leaders, parents, professionals and well-wishers must also come together to support projects that change the lives of our people,” he said.
His appearance at the fundraiser comes as political activity begins to take shape ahead of the 2027 General Election, with Opande positioning himself as a candidate for the Nyakach parliamentary seat.
As Kisumu County ODM chairman, Opande has also been active in the affairs of the Orange Democratic Movement in the county.
For residents of Nyakach, the focus at Kusa Comprehensive School was, however, firmly on education and the need to improve facilities for learners.
The fundraiser underscored the growing role of community partnerships in addressing infrastructure challenges facing schools, while Opande’s contribution provided additional resources towards Kusa Comprehensive School’s development plans.
