ODM party leader Oburu Oginga is in Britain for a routine medical check-up and rest, saying he remains confident in the party’s leadership structures during his absence.

Oburu said in a statement that he travelled to the United Kingdom on the advice of his doctors and the party leadership for a comprehensive assessment of his health.

“I am currently in the United Kingdom (UK) to undergo a thorough, routine medical checkup,” Oburu said.

He said the trip would also provide an opportunity for him to rest and rejuvenate as he takes a temporary step back from the party’s day-to-day affairs.

Oburu said his absence would test the Orange Democratic Movement’s institutional strength and its ability to operate without relying on individual leaders.

He said the party had the mechanisms and systems needed to keep its national operations running without interruption.

Deputy party leaders Paul Simba Arati and Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, together with the National Central Committee and the party secretariat, will oversee the party’s affairs while he is away, Oburu said.

“As an elder who has walked this long journey with you, I have absolute faith in their collective leadership, discipline, and vision to steer our movement effectively,” he said.

Oburu urged ODM members and supporters to cooperate with the party leadership, remain united and focus on the movement’s national objectives.

He also thanked members and supporters for their prayers, goodwill and continued support.
