Kisumu Central MP Joshua Oron has stepped up his campaign to succeed Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o in the 2027 elections, pledging to build on the county’s development gains while expanding industrialisation.
Speaking during ODM delegates’ consultative meeting in Seme subcounty, Oron said he was ready to take over the county’s leadership when Nyong’o’s current term ends.
“I want to take over this mantle. I want to be the governor and continue with the development agenda of Kisumu County,” he said.
Oron said industrialisation would be a priority under his administration, with investment and employment opportunities spread across the county.
He singled out Seme, which he said lacked major industries, and pledged to promote the establishment of factories across the county.
“There are no factories in Seme. We want a factory in each ward. We want development across the county in different wards,” he said.
The MP was speaking to ODM members from North Seme and East Seme as the party steps up grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election.

He urged supporters to recruit new members, calling on each person to register at least five new supporters.
“When you leave here, make sure each of you registers five people,” he said.
Oron also called for unity within ODM, saying a strong grassroots membership would be important in securing elective positions in the next election.
“Anytime we are here, we must come together and work together as an ODM party. We have to have numbers. That is what will see us get MPs and even senators,” he said.
Political parties are increasingly stepping up grassroots activities ahead of the 2027 elections, with candidates and party officials seeking to strengthen their support bases.
Oron urged residents to remain united as political activity gathers pace, saying voters would ultimately decide who leads the county.
“Wananchi will decide,” he said. Oron is among politicians positioning themselves to succeed Nyong’o, whose current tenure is due to end after the 2027 election.
