A Nyanza clergy caucus has urged Kenyans to support President William Ruto’s efforts to attract investment to the country, saying the initiatives could create jobs and stimulate economic growth.
Caucus chairman Bishop Tom Obingo said the government’s investment drive was consistent with the Kenya Kwanza administration’s pledge to create employment opportunities, particularly for young people.
Speaking in Kisumu, Obingo cited the oil refinery project being established in Lamu as an example, saying it would create jobs and generate economic opportunities for Kenyans.
He criticised opponents of the project, accusing them of having ulterior motives, and urged Kenyans to ignore criticism that was not accompanied by practical alternatives.
“The opposition should offer practical solutions instead of being negative all the time,” Obingo said.
He also praised Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo for what he described as a key role in coordinating government projects in the Nyanza region.
Obingo said close monitoring and coordination of government activities in the region had helped speed up the implementation of projects.
He also linked the government’s efforts to an increase in voter registration, saying the number of newly registered voters had reached 3.4 million.
He did not provide further details or supporting figures.
Obingo urged people in Nyanza to remain part of the broad-based government, saying the region was already benefiting from projects that had previously stalled.
He said the projects, located in various parts of Nyanza, would help spur economic growth in the region.
Obingo also called on Nyanza residents to support Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027, saying the opposition had yet to present a convincing alternative to the government.
“The idea of one term can never be an agenda at all,” he said.
He argued that some opposition leaders had previously held government positions without delivering sufficient benefits to Kenyans, and urged voters not to be swayed by what he described as opposition rhetoric.
