The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) has begun the formal process of changing The Equitable Party (TEP) to Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM).

In a letter dated October 13, 2026, Registrar of Political Parties John Lorionokou said the office had reviewed documents submitted in support of the proposed name change and had initiated the gazettement process under Section 20(1)(d) of the Political Parties Act.

The documents were submitted in a letter dated October 8 and included a resolution by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) approving the change.

Other submissions included a notice of the NEC meeting held on October 8, a signed attendance list, statutory Form PP.10 and evidence that the proposed name change had been published in the Daily Nation newspaper on October 10 and on the party’s official website.

The Registrar directed the party to submit details of any public representations received after the expiry of the mandatory 14-day period following publication of the notice in the newspaper.

The party must also explain how it has addressed any representations received, in accordance with Section 20(4) of the Political Parties Act.

The Linda Mwananchi Movement is associated with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Siaya Senator James Orengo, among other political leaders.
