Kisumu Central parliamentary aspirant Abdul Omar has stepped up his campaigns by providing meals to pupils sitting examinations in schools across the constituency.
Omar, a businessman in Kisumu town, has provided hot meals to 1,300 Grade Six and Grade Nine candidates, targeting learners in informal settlements.
He said the initiative would continue until the examinations are completed, adding that plans were under way to extend the programme to more schools in Kisumu Central.
Speaking during the exercise, Omar said many pupils from informal settlements and peri-urban areas struggled to access adequate food while attending school.

He said economic hardships had left many parents unable to meet their children’s basic needs, including providing meals during the school day.
Omar called on charitable organisations to support vulnerable children and their families, saying poor living conditions and crime further compounded the challenges facing disadvantaged communities.
The aspirant, who first contested the parliamentary seat in 2013, has been traversing the constituency, focusing on youth and women’s empowerment, infrastructure development, security and support for micro and small enterprises.

He has also organised medical camps targeting disadvantaged residents in Kisumu Central.
Omar said he had maintained contact with voters since his first bid for the seat in 2013, adding that his agenda included improving livelihoods and addressing the needs of vulnerable groups.
