Three arrested in Kisumu over alleged violent robbery as police hunt suspect

Three men have been arrested in connection with an alleged violent robbery in Kisumu County, according to police.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in the Nyanza Region, working with officers from DCI Kisumu East, carried out an operation on Sunday that led to the arrest of a 31-year-old suspect at Kisumu Rotary College.

Kisumu County Police Commander Hillary Toroitich said they identified the suspect as Reagan Otieno Silvester.

He alleged that he is one of three men captured on CCTV breaking into a victim’s home while armed with machetes, metal bars and what appeared to be a pistol.

Toroitich said he was seen carrying away a 55-inch Hisense television during the incident.

According to police, the suspect later led detectives to Rabour in Kadibo Sub-county, where they believed another suspect, Mohamed Ramadhan, also known as “Moha”, was hiding.

During the operation, police arrested Christopher Onyango Okoth, 34, and Fidel Omondi Were, 28.

However, officers said Mohamed Ramadhan escaped after allegedly jumping over a perimeter wall.

Police said searches conducted at the suspects’ hideouts led to the recovery of assorted household items believed to have been stolen, as well as tools suspected to have been used to gain entry into the victim’s home.

Several rolls of cannabis were also recovered, according to investigators.

Detectives also searched a house rented by the fugitive suspect in the Nyang’ande area, where they said they recovered a toy pump action gun resembling a pistol hidden under a bed, together with several SIM cards.

A further search at Reagan Otieno’s rented house in the same area led to the recovery of more items suspected to have been stolen.

Police said they also recovered an identity card belonging to Steve Biko Omondi, who they say was the victim of a previous robbery with violence in which valuables, including a 55-inch television, were stolen.

The three suspects were taken to Kasagam Police Station, where they remain in custody pending further investigations.

The recovered items have been placed in the station’s exhibit store after the scenes were processed.

Police said mobile phones, SIM cards and other recovered items will undergo forensic analysis to help identify their owners and support the investigation.

The manhunt for the remaining suspects are ongoing.
