Gor Mahia member seeks access to club records ahead of AGM

A life member of Gor Mahia Football Club has asked Sports Registrar and the club’s secretary general for access to membership and financial records ahead of the club’s annual general meeting (AGM).

Samuel Ochola Kwenda said members need the documents to make informed decisions.

Kwenda, through his lawyers Eliakim Owala & Company Advocates, requested permission to inspect the club’s membership register and obtain certified copies of the register, financial statements and minutes of the previous AGM.

The request comes ahead of Gor Mahia’s AGM scheduled for Aug. 2, where members are expected to confirm the minutes of the April 25, 2025 meeting, receive financial reports, appoint auditors and elect members of the Board of Trustees.

In a letter addressed to the Sports Registrar and copied to Gor Mahia Secretary General Nicanor Arum, the lawyers said the notice convening the AGM, issued on July 6, did not include the minutes of the previous meeting or the financial statements to be considered.

“Our client is entitled to inspect the club’s records and obtain certified copies of the documents by virtue of his membership rights,” the lawyers said.

According to the letter, Kwenda is seeking the club’s register of members, statutory returns filed after the 2025 AGM, the minutes of the April 25, 2025 meeting and the financial reports for the 2025 financial year.

The lawyers said access to the records would enable their client to participate effectively in discussions and voting during the AGM.

“GMFC circulated the notice of the meeting without attaching the minutes of the meeting held on April 25, 2025 and the financial reports to be tabled, making it difficult for our client to meaningfully engage with the issues before the meeting,” the letter said.

They added that inspection of the membership register was particularly important because the meeting will include elections to the Board of Trustees, allowing members to verify those eligible to attend and vote.

The lawyers asked the Sports Registrar and the club to provide the requested documents as soon as possible, citing the limited time before the AGM.

“We would be sincerely grateful if the requested documents could be made available at the earliest opportunity to enable our client to fully exercise his membership rights,” the letter said.

The Sports Registrar had not publicly responded to the request by the time of publication.

Gor Mahia had also not issued a statement on whether it would release the documents.
