The Seventh-day Adventist Church has launched a global campaign encouraging members, particularly young people, to use digital platforms to share a message of hope centred on Jesus Christ.

The initiative, known as One Voice 27, was launched on Saturday as part of preparations for a worldwide commemoration in September 2027.

Church leaders say the event will mark 2,000 years since the baptism of Jesus, which they date to AD 27.

Pastor Blasius Ruguri, president of the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s East-Central Africa region, said the campaign would remind people of the significance of Jesus’ baptism and the mission that followed.

“Let us all join our voices as Seventh-day Adventist believers and faithfuls and remind the world that something big happened in the year 27 AD.”

Ruguri said Jesus’ baptism marked the beginning of his public ministry and provided an opportunity for Christians to reflect on their responsibility to share the message of salvation.

The campaign is being rolled out across different levels of the church, from regional leadership to local congregations, with members around the world expected to take part.

Gideon Mutero, a representative of the church’s world headquarters, said the campaign was intended to offer hope to people facing difficulties.

“We as a global church are saying that this Jesus who was baptized 2,000 years ago is inviting us today to give us hope.”

He said the church wanted to communicate its belief that Christianity offers hope and that Jesus promises renewal in a troubled world.

Dgital platforms will play a central role in the campaign, with members encouraged to use Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube to share its message.

Samuel Misiani, president of the West Kenya Union Conference, said the campaign would run for a year, with members repeatedly highlighting the message of hope in Christ.

“It’s going to take one year of constant reminding our people that there is hope in Christ.”

Misiani said young people would be central to the campaign because of their familiarity with social media and other digital platforms.

He urged young people and digital teams within the church to use their skills to reach audiences beyond traditional congregational settings.

“We want to have one voice. Everybody reminding their friends that the Messiah who died is alive, is coming again. There is hope.”

The church also plans to encourage members to share their faith and communicate its belief that Jesus is alive and will return.

Misiani said the campaign represented an opportunity for the church to make greater use of modern technology in its mission.

“This is time for the digital teams to get involved in sharing the message of Christ with their friends in their groups.”

Activities will continue over the coming year and culminate in a worldwide commemoration planned for 27 September 2027.
