Two suspected members of a criminal gang have been arrested in Kisumu, with police recovering a homemade firearm and other items believed to be linked to criminal activity.
The arrests followed an operation by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Operations Support Unit, the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit and the General Service Unit’s Tactical Team.
Police said the operation was based on intelligence about the suspects’ alleged criminal activities.
The suspects, identified as Joseph Mwata Magak, also known as “Boyi Sampa”, and Isaac Omondi Ojwang’, were arrested during the operation.
Detectives later searched Magak’s rented house in Mamboleo Pocho Estate, where they recovered several items from the main bedroom.
These included a homemade firearm, a bow and four arrows, a panga, a toy gun and five rolls of cannabis.
Police also recovered a police siren, a pair of police boots, six pairs of jungle-green tactical trousers, a camouflage jacket and a pair of tactical boots.
Other items recovered included a bottle of gun oil, a Kenyan flag and a Subaru front bumper.
The DCI said Magak is also facing an ongoing case of attempted robbery with violence at the Nakuru Law Courts.
The two suspects remain in custody as investigations continue and are expected to be taken to court.
The recovered items have been secured as exhibits.
The DCI thanked members of the public for providing information to security agencies, saying timely intelligence was important in efforts to tackle organised crime.
