Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has said none of the current opposition leaders can unseat President William Ruto.
Speaking in Kisumu, Mr Mbadi said most of the politicians in the opposition camp had little tangible to offer Kenyans.
“I know many of them because I have worked with them,” Mbadi said, without naming the opposition leaders he was referring to.
He urged Kenyans to support President Ruto’s administration, saying the government was continuing to deliver on its promises.
Mbadi challenged the opposition to provide alternative policies if it believed the government’s programmes were not working.
He defended the Social Health Authority (SHA), saying it was functioning better than the former National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF), which he described as moribund.
The CS also said the government’s affordable housing programme was on course.
On the country’s debt, Mr Mbadi said Kenya’s debt position had improved.
He said Kenya had previously been listed among countries at risk of defaulting on debt repayments, but had not defaulted.
Mbadi said the Treasury would continue implementing debt management measures to protect the country’s interests.
He also said the leasing of government vehicles falls under the Treasury and stressed that public debt must remain sustainable.
The CS praised the Chinese government for its cooperation with Kenya on debt management and pledged to undertake public participation at all levels.
Earlier, Mbadi said the government intended to appeal a High Court decision that blocked the proposed divestiture of government shares in Safaricom.
He expressed confidence in the judiciary at all levels.
