Nyakach parliamentary aspirant Okoth Opande, also known as Mulla, has called for unity and inclusive development in the constituency, urging residents to focus on policies rather than community-based political divisions.

Opande spoke during a meeting with members of the Kobong’o clan at Kadiang’a Ochol Grounds in Southeast Nyakach Ward, where he discussed issues affecting residents and supported several community initiatives.

The initiatives included assistance to a school feeding programme for candidates sitting examinations, construction of a four-door toilet and plastering of an Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) classroom.

“Politics should be about policies and development. We must choose a path that brings our people together instead of dividing them,” Opande said.

He said residents across Nyakach shared common interests and should work together to address challenges facing the constituency.

“Nyakach is one, and we must continue to see ourselves as one people. Our differences should not stop us from pursuing common development goals,” he said.

Opande also said development should be distributed across the constituency rather than concentrated in particular areas.

“Development should not be concentrated in one area. Every corner of Nyakach deserves attention, and every community deserves to feel included,” he said.

He urged residents to maintain their relationships despite political differences, saying competition should not undermine unity within the constituency.

“We can disagree politically and still remain brothers, neighbours and one people. Let us keep our politics issue-based and protect the unity of Nyakach,” Opande said.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for residents to raise issues affecting their community, with education and basic infrastructure among the concerns discussed.

Opande said leaders should be judged by their response to residents’ needs and their ability to ensure development reaches different parts of the constituency.

His remarks come as political discussions continue in Nyakach over the constituency’s development priorities and future leadership.

“Nyakach is one. Development should reach every corner,” he said.
